About weight units
The metric side uses the kilogram — the SI base unit of mass — and the gram for smaller amounts. The imperial and US customary side uses the pound and ounce (16 ounces to the pound), plus the stone (14 pounds), which is still the everyday unit for body weight in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The systems are tied together exactly: since 1959, one avoirdupois pound is defined as 0.45359237 kilograms. All the converters here derive from that exact definition, so a value converted to pounds and back to kilograms returns precisely where it started.
